How to Share Finances

Start by talking it out

It’s true that living with a partner can alleviate some financial stress. But it can also create it if you aren’t on the same page.

There are all sorts of ways to handle finances with a romantic partner. Joint bank accounts? Experts say there are risks but it leads to more financial stability. Going 50-50? That can work for couples who are making about the same amount of money but isn’t necessarily fair if there’s a significant wage gap.

Money in relationships can be tricky. Recently, Penny got a letter from someone who wants to know how to handle the bills between them and their partner. They say they’re confused by the current set-up and need Penny’s insight.

See what Penny’s got to say about this one. (Spoiler alert: It all comes down to communication.)
